Tokyo's Coolest Sound

This is a first live DVD by Hoshino Michiru, presenting parts of the release live for album "hoshi ga Michiru" (July 17, 2013) and her birthday show (November 25, 2013, with VJ Sally Kubota), both held at Aoyama Cay in Tokyo. This is a great opportunity to revisit songs from the great album produced by Hase Hajimu and Satō Seiki (Microstar), and also get a good dose of Michiru's charming stage presence.

The video clip for recent single "hanashite,,," and some bonus footage is also included.

"Wonderful World"

Osaka-based 80's-style idol group Especia have a first album out this week. Their nostalgic synth sounds and touches of brass makes them stand out, as does the retro feel of their videos. The album has a total of 16 tracks, including 9 brand new songs, and new versions of previously released singles.

The limited edition contains a DVD (Region 2 NTSC) of a full live one-man show that was held on January 11, 2014. Total 21 songs with a running time of 104 minutes.

Indies singer-songwriter/guitarist Shibata Satoko has a 2nd album out now, written and recorded almost entirely by herself with a few appearances of Tenniscoats' Ueno Takashi. All tracks can be sampled at HMV or Amazon.

A 7" single was also released for Record Store Day, it contains "ikisugita tomodachi" and a non-album track, cover of MAHOΩ's "shikake no koi". It can be found at Jet Set.

"ikisugita tomodachi"

Sendai-based techno-pop idol group Techpri (English name "t.c.princess") was active from 2009 to 2013, produced by electro artist Tobeta Bajune, with their last show held part of TIF2013 (the annual Tokyo Idol Festival).

This tribute album features mainly girl-fronted units from the future-pop and 8-bit scenes, giving tribute to Techpri with remixes and covers in their own styles. This includes The Aprils, YMCK, Sexy-Synthesizer, Prof. Sakamoto and more.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has a new single with the theme of "luck", coming as a limited edition of 7777. The package contains not only a CD, but also some goodies: a signed mini-poster, a sticker, and the enclosing vinyl pouch. The CD jacket is also 7"-sized. It's already sold out at many retailers, but HMV is still taking orders at time of writing.

"Kira Kira Killer" is a new up-tempo song produced by Nakata Yasutaka (CAPSULE). It's being used in a TV commercial for mobile phone carrier au.

Group sounds girl band Kinoco Hotel have a new original album out this month, follow-up to "Marianne no yūwaku" (2012). This is also their first original album since new bassist Julietta Kirishima was recruited.

A deluxe edition limited to 1000 has sold out quickly, though Play-Asia still seems to taking pre-orders (at time of writing). This special box includes a DVD, an exclusive version of leader Marianne Shinonome's official mascot character figure and a trading card.

A Japan tour will be held starting on May 16 in Saitama, and dropping by Tokyo on May 30 at Shinjuku Blaze (opening for Suzy Quatro) and leading to a finale at Ebisu Liquidroom on July 18.

Team Syachihoko is an idol group of six from Nagoya who debuted in 2011 and went major last year. "ii kurashi" is their 6th single so far, and it is especially of interest because it's produced by Yoshida Tetsuto. Who else could make idols sing such an acid techno track that clocks 6:30? Singer Harada Tomoyo has a new album coming, produced by Itō Gorō (naomi & goro). Along with new songs, a self-cover of Swedish pop song "Love" (written by Tore Johansson, from 1997 album "I could be free") is included. Sakamoto Ryuichi guests as keyboard player.

A Japan tour will be held through July, stopping at Tokyo's Meguro Persimmon Hall on May 31.
