eli (aka Ellie, of Love Tambourines and girl it's U) has a solo album coming soon! Despite her 1996 solo album under the name Ellie ("Bitch In Zion"), this is her first as "eli" and she considers it a debut album. The songs are said to go from melodious pop to mellow R&B, very soul as goes her vocal style.
eli can be caught live in Tokyo on November 10 at Shibuya Spuma.
In promotion of the album, she will also perform these in-store live shows:
November 22 (Thursday) at HMV Shibuya, starts at 19:30
November 30 (Friday) at Tower Records Shibuya 1F, starts at 19:00
It's smart to buy the album where you plan to see the show.
Update (1/4): Since January 1st, eli has made 5 full tracks from this album available for free download at her MySpace. This is probably for a limited time, so hurry. You need a MySpace account to download.

It's been ages since we've got a remix album from the Readymade crew ("Readymade Digs Classics" two years ago?)! This time Konishi Yasuharu and friends have their take on hit songs by Japan's leading songwriter, Tsutsumi Kyōhei. This should be enjoyable by both the young club crowd and also those who heard the songs back in the day. The songs are selected and the whole supervised by Konishi-san. Of course, the song Tsutsumi-sensei wrote for Pizzicato Five is in!

arcorhyme, the up-and-coming unit of Takanami K-tarō and Nishimura Ikuyo, will make a quick guest appearance during artist BANK's set at this event. I think it will be the first time that they perform some original songs live. They will also perform a cover of Kinks' "You Really Got Me", according to this entry on Ikuyo's blog.
arcorhyme are busy in studio preparing the release of two albums early next year (hopefully)! One will be with a band with real instruments, and the other all programmed.

EMI and BMG have got together and decided to re-issue a bunch of Shibuya-kei related CDs, under a "standard of 90's" theme. Part 1 and 2 (out in October and November) got my interest with titles by Original Love, Spank Happy, Great 3, Scha Dara Parr and Tokyo No.1 Soul Set. Many of those titles are now rare, especially the Spank Happy early albums, I think.
All are offered in mini-LP paper sleeves, remastered with bonus tracks! The price is ¥2500 except for Original Love "Love! Love! & Love!" (2 CD set) that's ¥2800.
For those in Japan, there's a contest to win an eco bag, probably adorning the logo designed by Contemporary Production. Two titles must be bought to enter the contest.
So here goes the list for part 1 (Original Love and Spank Happy), stay tuned for part 2.

Sakamoto Ryūichi has two new soundtracks coming up this December!
First, he did the music for the film "Silk (Soie)" (2007), a collaboration between Canada, Japan and Italy directed by Canadian François Girard. This is his first movie since the acclaimed "The Red Violin" (1998). Second is the Japanese film "Tony Takitani" (2004), directed by Ichikawa Jun and based on story by Murakami Haruki. Even though this one was screened 3 years ago, its soundtrack had yet to be released on CD.
Sakamoto fans will want to buy early both of these Japanese editions, as HMV and Tower Records offer a free 15-minute promo DVD showing bits of the "Silk" recording with commentary by both the musician and director.
(Both CDs must be ordered at the same time, pre-ordering is recommended. The DVD may be region 2 NTSC.)

Super-group The Hello Works, a collaboration of rap unit Scha Dara Parr and instrumental band Sly Mongoose, has a debut album coming up that's worth looking out for. Included will be a cover of SDP's hit song "konya wa Boogie Back" featuring Hanaregumi. Also, Halcali has hinted recording with them recently, so hopefully that song will also be part of the album.
There will be a limited edition with bonus DVD including live footage from a Fukuoka sunset live plus one music video (or more).
