Tokyo's Coolest Sound

Jazz pianist and singer-songwriter Tetsurō Yafune's next album has been announced as being a cover album of Pizzicato Five's 2nd album "Bellissima!" (1988) in its entirety, and produced by Konishi Yasuharu (ex-Pizzicato Five)! Like his previous album —"Song, Piano, Bass, Drums." (available on vinyl) which was also produced by Konishi— the music is performed by Yafune's trio with Katsuto Suzuki on bass and Ryūsuke Kakizawa on drums, with also Harumo Imai on saxophone.

The album will be coming on November 22, and meanwhile this month a 7" cut of the opening song "Wakusei" (known to international P5 fans as "Planets") will be released. The B-side is a non-album track of a cover of Eiichi Ohtaki's "Yubikiri", a song which was also once covered by Pizzicato Five (on album "Soft Landing On the Moon").

A release party for the album will be held on November 23 at mona records in Shimokitazawa featuring Tetsuro Yafune Trio, Konishi Yasuharu and Seira Kariya (who released last year an album backed by Tetsuro Yafune Trio). Find event details here.
