Pizzicato Five "The Band of 20th Century: Nippon Columbia Years 1991-2001"

Pizzicatomania all over the world! Check this out!

This is a compilation of the best from Pizzicato Five's Nippon Columbia years (Triad/Readymade), which featured vocalist Nomiya Maki. The whole was supervised and selected by Konishi Yasuharu himself, with art direction by Shindō Mitsuo like in the day.

Now pay attention to the two formats. First is a boxed set of sixteen 7" records! A limited number of which includes a photo signed by Konishi Yasuharu and Nomiya Maki. Plus, those who pre-order by August 31 should get one bonus 7"! If this all sounds too good to be true, don't wait any longer.

The other edition, to be released three days later, is a 2-CD album of pretty much the same songs, with a few differences such as the inclusion of single versions of "Happy Sad", "Baby Portable Rock", and "La Règle du Jeu". The CD edition may come with promo goodies, at Amazon Japan with a large reproduction of the jacket artwork, HMV gives a postcard and Tower Records a sticker (all while supplies last).

It has been announced that the album will also be made available digitally worldwide at the same time as the release!

Check out the official release page, within which the "Special" page has commentary by Konishi about each song, and also a full discography and twelve music videos.

Hey do you know if the songs in this new release are remixed or remastered?
I am listening to the digital version on Apple Music and I notice some minor differences on the instruments balance.
The “versions updated” on the CD cover makes me think that it is not only my ears playing tricks on me.
Thanks!

Hey! Not sure about the digital edition, but at least some of the songs were re-edited by Konishi himself so that they could fit on the 7" format. Comparing with the original track times might give a hint what happened.

Thanks for replying! As I listened to the rest of the songs I definitely hear some changes, even new effects and little sound bites.
Great website by the way, long time reader, discovered great music here!

Thank you very much! That you could find new good music here makes me very happy!

I'm also noticing some different bits in the new tracks. Love it!

I'm disappointed with the track listing to be honest. Too many album tracks from Romantique 96 and Playboy (though missing Playboy Playgirl the single), and not nearly enough from their earlier albums in the Maki era (This Year's Girl especially, and Happy End of the World underappreciated too). The latter part just drops off too due to weirdly album-only selections from the last two efforts, leaving off some late-period gems while making us endure atrocious Maki-free selections from their last album. So, a bit of a shiny mixed bag for me.

I think it's ludicrous that the vinyl box, an import that cost me over three hundred bucks, omits the 7" bonus vinyl unless you preordered, when the cd, which is over ten times cheaper has more material. They should have made identical track listings. It's a great box but I don't understand why they opted for differences between the releases.
