A new release is coming from Childish Tones (Instagram, Twitter) feat. Beni Usakura (Instagram, Twitter)! This one is a cover of The Carpenters' "Yesterday Once More" using the Japanese lyrics written by Shintarō Sakamoto as he once sang in Yura Yura Teikoku. Childish Tones use only toy and miniature musical instruments as always, this time giving the song a dreamy nostalgic touch.
The song comes on a one-sided 7" flexi disc (also often called "sonosheets" in Japan), and a QR code is included allowing the download of the song plus an extra version sung by the band's toy pianist Rock-A-Poppy (this song is the first recording since she joined the band!). The release is a limited pressing of 250 from the Hello From The Gutter label which has been releasing flexis at a regular pace since last year. Childish Tones' previous 7" "Top Secret Man / Yeah Yeah Yeah" was also released on the same label.
Upcoming shows of Childish Tones (though not with Beni Usakura) will happen on July 2 at Nishi-Ogikubo Kick-Ass (the venue's 10th-anniversary party) (details), on July 8 at Shibuya 7th Floor (for the Japan tour of Kissed by an Animal and A Very Special Episode from Brooklyn, also featuring Elekibass) (details), and on August 30 at Shimokitazawa Club Que (with also Taiji Satō (Theater Brook) and Beat Ryo & His Botch Band) (details).
Beni Usakura also has several upcoming solo shows, including one organized by label Hana To Pops on July 9 at Shinjuku Marble (details), and a show presented by her and Naomi Hayashi titled "Synergy!" on July 15 at Shinjuku Marble (details), both of which are early/lunchtime shows.
