Sally Kubota (The Scooters, ex-SOLEIL, The Phantom Gift, Les 5-4-3-2-1) is starting a new label project named "Girls At Our Best", which will bring new recordings of covers featuring various singers. The first guest is Emiri Kanou, who sings Buggles' "Video Killed The Radio Star", "kaitō Ruby" (written by Eiichi Ohtaki and originally sung by Kyōko Koizumi), Yuming's "Lipstick Message" ("Rouge no dengon") and James Brown's version of "Night Train" (originally by Jimmy Forrest). Check out the sampler clip below.
The music is performed by Sally Kubota Group, which features Nakayama Tsutomu on Hammond organ and Hara "Gen" Hideki on drums, joined by guest musician Takashi Itani on percussions. Also, I had the chance to assist the recording of the English songs and do handclaps in "Video Killed The Radio Star". :)
This release comes as a CD in a 7"-sized package.
Within Japan, the release can also be ordered directly from the label's online shop Merurido.
