Original soundtrack "Silk (Soie)", "Tony Takitani"

Sakamoto Ryūichi has two new soundtracks coming up this December!
First, he did the music for the film "Silk (Soie)" (2007), a collaboration between Canada, Japan and Italy directed by Canadian François Girard. This is his first movie since the acclaimed "The Red Violin" (1998). Second is the Japanese film "Tony Takitani" (2004), directed by Ichikawa Jun and based on story by Murakami Haruki. Even though this one was screened 3 years ago, its soundtrack had yet to be released on CD.

Sakamoto fans will want to buy early both of these Japanese editions, as HMV and Tower Records offer a free 15-minute promo DVD showing bits of the "Silk" recording with commentary by both the musician and director.
(Both CDs must be ordered at the same time, pre-ordering is recommended. The DVD may be region 2 NTSC.)

Actually, and likely as an experiment, Sakamoto has been selling this simple all piano soundtrack to "Tony Takitani" internationally as online downloads for a few years. So I guess at this point he's either received a lot of requests for a retail CD or perhaps he wants to compare numbers.

Actually my best guess is maybe he's no longer with WB, which I suspect and they are excercising their options with his back catalog. No new tracks. Somehow that seems to be the tipof to me that most likely it's his label deciding to release something. I wonder how the sales vs fan approval might change if the CD was different, which it doesn't seem to be.

Oops, I noticed it's on Commons. Anyway my point is he's under a new label situation. Also soundtracks tend to be made under various exceptions within existing record contracts I guess because film productions often sell their soundtrack rights to the labels they choose and and I think a lot of artists negotiate their own soundtrack release rights as their fee for recording the soundtrack.
