Gig report: Aira Mitsuki "6 FORCE" in-store live at Ishimaru Soft

Text by Patrick Benny for Tokyo's Coolest Sound

This Tuesday, the day before the release of mini-album "6 FORCE", Aira Mitsuki gave her first in-store show of a promo tour. I went to have a peek. Held on the 7th floor of Ishimaru Soft, a large software store (games, movies, music) in Akihabara, the seated space of over a hundred seats was full and there were many people watching from the back. I got there just in time as there weren't anymore seats left, but then again I prefer to enjoy my techno-pop while standing.

Aira was accompanied by her two main dancers, and they all wore the same outfits as her recent show at Liquid Room, simple-looking jumpsuits with flower patterns (see photos at Natalie). Aira also again wore a really cool green belt with a cassette tape buckle, just like last time.

Set list: Heat My Love / Yellow Submarine / lie days / Robot Honey

Aira played some keys during "Yellow Submarine", and otherwise the show was filled with good dancing, constantly switching between smoother moves to super-sync'd robot dance.

On my way back I picked up the standard edition of "6 FORCE", which I chose for the great pop-art jacket! This mini-album is really good! Even ballad "lie days" manages to fall in my taste. I'm a bit sad of missing "Yellow Submarine" that was played at this show though (only available on the limited edition), I hope it will show up on iTunes sooner or later.

Aira Mitsuki can be caught in-store again in Tokyo this Saturday June 5 (from 18:45) at Ishimaru Soft in Akihabara, and then on June 20 (from 14:00) at HMV Shibuya, and June 27 (from 13:00) at Tower Records Shinjuku. She will also play a one-man live at Vuenos Tokyo on August 8, celebrating 3 years since her debut, tickets are on sale now (Lawson 76942).

I assume her cover art is faux Roy Lichtenstein, not one of his appropriations?

What about that new album? similar to their previous ones?

Nick, I think you're right. No credits to him for sure.

Damian, I really like this new mini-album! It contains 3 songs in the usual fashion, 3 backed by a live band (Sawagi), and one ballad that I quite like also. Very good stuff!
