Tokyo's Coolest Sound

Kera (aka Keralino Sandorovich, of No Lie-Sense, Uchōten) has a brand new album being released! "Landscape" is the follow-up to "Brown, White & Black" (2016). The album has a concept of classical jazz from the 20's to 30's. Featured musicians include Sakaide Masami (Hikashu), jazz pianist Satō Shinya, Orita Yūsuke and Fujita Junnosuke (both of TRI4TH), Fanfan (Quruli) and many more.

Included are 8 new songs (with one titled "Kinema Bravo" written by Nakano Teruo (P-Model)), and also covers of "Cheek to Cheek" (from movie "Top Hat" (1935)), "Stardust" (1927), BOØWY's "B-BLUE" (1986), Moriyama Kayoko's "jinjiroge" (1961) and Sakamoto Kyu's "miagete goran yoru no hoshi o" (1963). There's a vinyl edition that comes as 2 LPs with a different tracklist with 4 bonus tracks and two alternate takes.

Upcoming shows include a big band set with over 15 musicians on August 25 at Billboard Live Tokyo, and a "small unit" set as a band of four on June 16 at Shibuya Loft Heaven. On June 25, an in-store event will be held at Tower Records Shinjuku (7F) from 21:00.

Popuri (also spelt Pot-Pourri) is a unit formed of Reina and Sasaki Atsushi (SoundCloud) (also of Melting Holidays). Both compose and perform the music, with Reina singing lead vocals. While their visuals consist of cute illustrations of a girl and her cat, also designed by the two, the sound is definitely neo-Shibuya-kei. After about three years, their first album has just been released! Check out the digest clip below.

Among guest musicians, Hase Yasuhiro (Yume to Cosme) plays piano on two songs ("hoshizora no Vanishing Point" and "yūgure Patchwork"), and Tasaka Kimiaki (Melting Holidays) plays guitar on three.

Niigata idol group RYUTist has a new single out now! Title song "Sensitive Sign" was written by Shin Rizumu, "suteki ni akogarete" by Satō Nozomu (aka M. Lemon, of Orangeade, Fujin Club, caméra-stylo) and features Kurosawa Yōsuke (Orangeade), and "Va-Va-Vacance!" was written by Microstar and features Wack Wack Rhythm Band.

"chōsho wa Super Negative!"

Sunaga t experience, the jazz project of DJ Sunaga Tatsuo, has a brand new 6th album being released! It's the follow-up to 2015 album "STE".

Featured musicians include Jukka Eskola, Timo Lassy and Teppo Mäkynen (all three of Five Corners Quintet), Studio Apartment, Dazai Yuri, Mannami Maki, as well as singers ChihiRo (Jill De-Coy Association), Emily Styler, Anna Sato and one named Sara from L.A., along with many others for a total of 34 musicians. "On The Other Side" is a cover of Kansas.

Five of the songs have just been released on 7" on Record Store Day 2019, while two others were released last year on RSD 2018. Another song previously appeared on compilations "Sunaga Tatsuo no yoru Jazz gaiden 3 ~ All the young dudes ~" (2017) and "Family Vol.2" (2018).

Wakita Monari's excellent 1st album "I am ONLY" (2017) is finally being released on vinyl!

Included are songs written by Hase Hajimu, Microstar, Fukutomi Yukihiro, Yafune Tetsurō, Nishidera Gōta (Nona Reeves), Count Joke, Hase Yasuhiro (Yume to Cosme), ikkubaru (from Indonesia), and Illicit Tsuboi with YUI (Bakubaku Dokin). Also, three songs are arranged by Arai Toshiya (Count Joke), and other musicians include Smooth Ace, Kashif (PPP) and Nakajima Hajime. Art direction and design by Sally Kubota.

An in-store event is being held on release day April 24 at HMV record shop Shinjuku ALTA from 19:30. There will also be ones in Kawasaki and Yokohama on April 30, and in Ikebukuro and Kinshicho on May 5. Details here.
