Tokyo's Coolest Sound

Way Wave is a duo formed of sisters Anna and Yuna with soulful voices, and their first 7" single is produced by Seki Yoshihiko and classifies as city pop. The A-side is original "Summer Girl", while the B-side is a cover of Minnie Riperton's "Lovin' You". Featured musicians include Kitayama Yūko (misola) on drums, Iga Wataru on bass, Yamanouchi Toshio on guitars, and on "Summer Girl" also Hase Yasuhiro (Yume to Cosme) on piano.

Several in-store events are being held, with ones on June 30 from 18:00 at HMV record shop Coppice Kichijoji, on July 1st from 15:00 at HMV record shop Shinjuku Alta, on July 11 from 19:00 at Village Vanguard Shibuya, and on July 15 from 15:00 at HMV record shop Shibuya. Idol duo WHY@DOLL from Sapporo (Hokkaido) has a new single out now! 15-year-old singer Hirose Aina (ex-Peach sugar snow)'s solo debut mini-album has just been released. Produced by Seki Yoshihiko, also featured are songs written by Sokabe Keiichi (Sunny Day Service) ("otona ni nanka naranai de") and Shibata Satoko ("ikisugita tomodachi"), as well as a cover of Yuming's "toki o kakeru shōjo". Hase Yasuhiro (Yume to Cosme) also co-arranged one song ("haru no hizashi"), and Sawabe Wataru (Skirt) whistled on one song.

Fukuoka-based teenage model & singer MANON (Instagram) finally has a full-length album coming! Just over a year since debut single "xxFANCYPOOLxx" (available on pink vinyl 7"), "Teenage Diary" contains all of her great singles so far plus a bunch of brand new tracks! This includes "Swipe", a song featuring Kero Kero Bonito (UK) for which a new clip has just been unveiled (watch below!), and another collaboration with Canadian producer Ryan Hemsworth. The album's wide variety of sounds are up-to-date with the international scene, with a throughout hip-hop feel that takes advantage of Manon's rap skills. Of course, the whole is total-produced by Yuppa (aka HNC, previously known as Hazel Nuts Chocolate)!

"Swipe" is now available in advance digitally on iTunes, Spotify, etc. The full album will be available digitally on July 7 (iTunes, Spotify), a few days in advance of the CD (out July 11).

A release party will be held on Wednesday August 29 at Shibuya clubasia from 19:00! Manon's set will feature HNC and VJ unit onnacodomo. Nakano Aya has a new album coming this month! The album has imaginary "sides", the "Butterfly Side" (tracks 1 to 6) which has a jazzy big band style, and the "Glamour Side" (tracks 7 to 12) which is more rhythm & blues. The album contains two songs recently released as singles, "Asami no Blues" and "girigiri no kankei" along with more new originals, and covers of "daite kuretara ii no ni" (1988), "kamome wa kamome" (1978), "Crying in a Storm" (1965), "Boy and Girl" (1969), "nigai namida" and "Proud Mary".

Two shows are planned following the release, one with a full band and horns on June 21 at Yokohama Friday, and another celebrating the release on June 23 at Nishi-Azabu room39. Find all details on her schedule page.

"Snack Koi ~ Episode 2"

The final show from Denki Groove's latest tour, "Tropical Love Tour 2017", is being released on Blu-ray and DVD! The show was held on March 25, 2017 at Zepp Tokyo. The limited editions include two CDs of the entire show's 22 songs. All editions include commentary audio by Ishino Takkyu, Pierre Taki and support member Ushio Kensuke (aka agraph).

Denki Groove have an upcoming show on July 23 at Liquidroom in Ebisu, celebrating the venue's 14th anniversary. They can also be seen at various festivals this summer, including the Fujio Rock Festival (not Fuji Rock!) on August 1st at Ebisu Garden Place, and also Rising Sun Rock Festival, Sonicmania and Magurock & FujiSonic.

Idol rap group lyrical school has a brand new album being released this month! The song "toko Nuts Return" has music written & arranged by Shinco (Scha Dara Parr) and lyrics by Bose (Scha Dara Parr) and Kaseki Cider. There are other tracks produced by Hercelot, Omoideyaro A-Team and others. The album will be available on CD and vinyl at the same time. It's the follow-up to "guidebook" (2016).

Charan-Po-Rantan has released two new songs digitally. Both are featured in dumpling-themed movie "Kiss dekiru gyōza" to start in theaters from June 22. The video for "juu-juu" was filmed in Utsunomiya, a town of Tochigi prefecture famous for having many good gyōza restaurants where the movie also takes place.

Here comes a massive boxed set compilation of works by Konishi Yasuharu (Pizzicato One, ex-Pizzicato Five) spanning his whole career from 1986 to now! Included are many of the hits and wonderful songs he wrote music or lyrics for, produced, arranged or remixed. The 5 CDs hold a total of 90 songs, of which 13 bonus tracks are previously unreleased demos and rarities. Check out the full list below!

The CDs are of Sony's "Blu-spec CD2" higher fidelity range which can be played on all regular players. A booklet is also included with liner notes by Konishi about each song, and also text by several key persons of his entourage.

On a side note, fans will also want to look out for a new visual book of still photos of Daiei Film, a movie studio active from 1942 to 1971, for which Konishi carefully selected photos from some 80 movies. Konishi is an avid movie fan who watches hundreds of movies at the theater every year. See details at the bottom of this page.

Saito Neonsign, a Showa-kayō band from Yokohama fronted by Piro Saito (aka Saitō Hiroyuki), has a first mini-album being released! The singer has also been seen performing on stage with Tokyo Panorama Mambo Boys.
