We close 2017 with a 7" release by Nona Reeves. Included are two songs first released in 2002. "Hippopotamus" is taken from their self-titled album, it's a popular track that was selected by Hashimoto Toru for the "free soul of Nona Reeves" compilation. The B-side is a cover of Yamashita Tatsuro's "dōyōbi no koibito", first-released as the B-side of CD single "Enjoyee! (Your Lifetime)".

Both songs can be sampled at Jet Set.

atarashii chizu is the new group formed of 3 ex-SMAP members: Inagaki Gorō, Kusanagi Tsuyoshi and Katori Shingo. "72" is the theme song of a 72-hour online TV show they held last November, and it was written and produced by Konishi Yasuharu. It is now available for download on iTunes Japan, Amazon MP3 Japan, etc.

The song features guitar by Kubota Haruo, programming by Fukutomi Yukihiro and chorus by Nishidera Gota (Nona Reeves) and Odawara "Ody" Tomohiro. The lyrics have been published here.

This month Ryuichi Sakamoto suddenly released a remix album of songs from his latest album "async". Included are remixes by close collaborators Cornelius, Alva Noto and Fennesz, as well as ARCA (co-producer of Björk's "Vulnicura"), Oneohtrix Point Never (who is working with David Byrne on his upcoming album), Jóhann Jóhannsson, Electric Youth, Yves Tumor, Motion Graphics, S U R V I V E and Andy Stott. @17 is an unit formed of staff from Akihabara maid cafe @home cafe. This is their 3rd single, and it's produced by Kaji Hideki! The A-side is a brand new song that he wrote, with lyrics by Kaseki Cider, while B-side "Bubble Bath Girl" is a cover of a song he wrote in 1997 for TV show Ponkickies. That one is arranged by Arai Toshiya (COUNTJOKE). Look around for the two different jackets each with half of the members.

By the way @17's previous single "Seventeen Parfait" (iTunes, Spotify) was also written and produced by Kaji Hideki.

Blue Peppers is a unit formed of Fukuda Naoki and Inoue Kaoru. After an EP and two singles, here comes their first full-length album, which features guest vocals by Hoshino Michiru and Sasaki Shiori. Aside from making their own music, they have also contributed a song to Hoshino Michiru's latest album ("ki ga tsukeba Looking for your love" on "12 signs of the zodiac"), and Inoue Kaoru appeared on Rie Aono's recent album "Pastoral".

A show part of the "Vivid Sound Live" series will be held on Friday February 16 at Shimokitazawa Three with Rie Aono. Hoshino Michiru will also sing some vocals and chorus. Tickets go on sale January 6.

"Candy Haus"

Duke Aces is a Japanese jazz chorus group that was formed in 1955 and had been active ever since. However, the group has announced that they will officially end their activities at the end of 2017. Konishi Yasuharu had collaborated twice with them, and he is releasing those songs on 7" to coincide with their 62-year career's curtain call.

Included are a cover of Pizzicato Five's "atarashii uta" ("A New Song") which was released on tribute album "music and words of pizzicato five" (2002), and a remixed cover of "tetsuwan Atom" (Astro Boy theme song) that was part of the "Atom is born" Astro Boy tribute album released in 2003.

This is an early release from an album of covers by Nosa Reina, expected to be released in Spring 2018. Don't miss getting this song while the season is right!

Nomiya Maki has a new song out now on iTunes Japan! This space disco track appears in sci-fi musical movie "The Brand New Legend of the Stardust Brothers" directed by Macoto Tezka (son of Tezuka Osamu), to open in theaters in Japan starting January 20, 2018. In this song, Maki sings about the Stardust Brothers who are leaving for a travel to the moon, where their new adventure is about to take place.

This follows the digital release of two other songs from the movie: theme song "hoshikuzu kyōdai no densetsu" sung by the Stardust Brothers (iTunes Japan), and "Dreams Never End" sung by the entire cast (iTunes Japan). A CD soundtrack is also expected to be released on January 10. Stay tuned for details!

There will be a special live event held on January 22 at Shibuya WWW, featuring many of the artists and cast seen in the movie.
