Tokyo's Coolest Sound

Saxophonist Shūnosuke Ishikawa has just released a new EP this week, on Nakatsuka Takeshi's digital label Delicatessen Recordings. All three songs are new originals.

Shūnosuke Ishikawa Big Bang will perform a show on May 2 at JZ Brat in Shibuya, with a total of 17 musicians on stage. There will be a guest appearance by singer noon. Details here.

Piggy Banks is a new girl rock band formed in 2015 with singer Yoko, guitarist Keme (Kinoco Hotel, Tokyo Killer) and bassist Akko (Tokyo Killer, ex-GO!GO!7188). Their first album is out now!

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu has a new single out this week! "Sai & Co" is a song that's being used in a Coca Cola commercial in which she appears. The theme song of her original ride at Universal Studio Japan, "Cosmetic Coaster" is also included, as well as an extended mix of "Mondai Girl". This year Kyary celebrates 5 years since her debut ("moshimoshi Harajuku" was released in 2011).

The limited edition comes with a bonus DVD of a selection of live performances from her "Crazy Party Night 2015" tour.

This year again Record Store Day is being held in Japan, this time on Saturday April 16! A lot of special and limited vinyl editions are being released on that very day, and at first only available in physical shops. Usually a few weeks later they will become available online, though orders cannot be placed until that time.

Denki Groove has released two Blu-ray/DVDs just recently! The first is "Denki Groove The Movie", a documentary of the group's 25 years so far that was shown on big screens throughout Japan at the end of 2015. This features a lot of rare live footage, and also high quality live songs from their Fuji Rock 2014 performance. Funnily all of the movie's narration is in English (except for interviews). The limited editions (Blu-ray or DVD) comes with a bonus disc of about 1½ hour of video rarities from some 20 shows.

The other release is a full live show of 34 songs (fits on 1 Blu-ray disc or 2 DVDs) held of November 8, 2014 at Zepp Tokyo at the end of their 25th anniversary tour. The show featured guest appearances by Scha Dara Parr, DJ Tasaka and Amahisa Masakazu. The limited editions (either Blu-ray or DVD) include a 2-CD set of the whole show, plus a mini "tofun" brush.

Negicco has a new single out now! The title song was written by singer-songwriter Sakai Yū, with lyrics by Toki Asako, and arranged by connie (Negicco's producer) and NEGiBAND. Check out the charming clip below that features many guests! The B-side was written by connie.

The single comes in several editions. Limited edition A comes with a DVD of the music video, while limited edition B comes with a CD of two remixes (by Yakenohara and Miyauchi Yūri). Limited edition C is a special-priced 1-song CD. There's also a limited 7" that was released at the same time.

A new album titled "Tea for Three" is planned for release on May 24.

Perfume has a brand new 6th album out now! This is the follow-up to "LEVEL3" (2013) since which 2½ years have passed. Amidst brand new unheard songs, some of the previously released songs such as "Sweet Refrain", "Cling Cling" and "Star Train" are included as new album mix versions. As always, the whole is produced by Nakata Yasutaka (CAPSULE).

The limited edition comes with a bonus CD (of song "Flash" and its instrumental, plus a radio track) and a Blu-ray or DVD with music videos, a live clip, and backstage footage from NHK's last annual "kōhaku uta gassen" (a live music program aired at the end of every year).

CDJapan gives away a poster while supplies last.

Check out this brand new single by Cutemen, the unit of CMJK (ex-Denki Groove) and vocalist Picorin. Cutemen was formed 25 years ago. They once quit around 1994, and just got back together. The new single is out now on iTunes worldwide.

An event titled "Cutemen Strikes Back! 25th OH! YEAH!" will be held on April 22 at Shibuya Glad, with guest Hondalady and DJ Taichi Master.
