Tokyo's Coolest Sound

Vanilla Beans have a brand new album coming, you guessed it, "Vanilla Beans IV"! Once again this comes with artwork that's both very non-idol-like and unforgettable. The album will include several brand new songs, plus the title tracks of the latest 5 singles: "Muscat Slope Love" (written by Kaji Hideki), "Please Me Darling", "watashi... fukō guse", "kitto ii basho (fuchi)" and "uchōten Girl". A cover of Belle & Sebastian's "Funny Little Frog" also made it (original on YouTube).

The limited edition comes with a DVD of footage from the unit's latest one-man live held at Liquidroom on December 17.

Vanilla Beans can be expected to perform many in-store shows around the release date, so keep an eye on their schedule.

"Yokochō Rising" is an event that has been held 5 times so far in the rebuilt food stall area of Kesennuma Yokochō in Sendai. This compilation of artists who took part in the event, including several songs written/arranged by BUBBLE-B, a song featuring acolyte Enjo-G, a remix by Groove Unchant, and many more.

This album was released earlier this year, but a digest clip has just surfaced on YouTube which makes it the right timing to bring it up.

Digest clip

Charan-Po-Rantan, the brilliant duo of sisters Momo (vocals) and Koharu (accordion), have a first major full-length album out now. A cover of Edith Piaf's "Hymne à l'amour" is included.

The limited edition comes with a DVD of 9 songs, two of which are live performances from a show held at Tokyo Globe-za last May 25.

The latest in Nona Reeves' "Choice" series is a cover album of Wham!, or an album of only Wham! covers, if you prefer. The artwork refers to the fact that Wham! songs "Bad Boys" and "Freedom" were used in TV commercials for Maxell UDII cassette tapes.

"Christmas Song of the Year (kotoshi no Christmas Song)" lyric video

Ukulenica is a new project of Okada Tohru (Moonriders, CTO LAB.), and consists of 4 ukulele players including himself, Natsuaki Fumihisa (Jack-tati), Yoshida Takashi (Rose-Unlimited, 5th Garden) and Kuroda Hideaki (plusico). This first album is of covers of the Moonriders. Guest vocalists include Maika Leboutet (EA), Satō Yusuke and Sato Nozomu (both of caméra-stylo).

Negicco have a new single out now, featuring two new songs. While both were produced by Negicco's main producer connie, the winter-themed title track is arranged by Tajima Takao (Original Love) who also produced previous single "Sunshine Nihonkai".

Half-French half-Japanese singer-songwriter Maika Leboutet (of band EA) has a first solo album out now, the result of a crowd-funding project started last June. Rapper twins P.O.P's smooth rap track "Watch Me" has been released on 7"! Included is a remix by Osaka's okadada. This is out on DJ Michelle Sorry's recently started 7" label, mawarisō na Records. Also check out their album "tanoshii koto bakari arimasu yō ni." released last June.

The two rappers can next be seen on stage at Tofubeats' release party on December 13 at Daikanyama Unit, part of okadada's live set.
